Scales on Denim – Reimagining Fish Skins & Scales
Share
Luxury fashion has always had a fascination with the unusual.
A few forward-thinking brands have already experimented with fish skin for leather goods, prized for its rare texture and whimsical appeal. There’s something nostalgic and almost storybook-like about it—playful, communal, sensual.
A material that feels both unexpected and familiar.
The beauty of fish skin lies not just in its look, but in its story.
As a byproduct, it’s inherently sustainable, giving new life to what would otherwise be discarded. But sustainability often comes with its own set of challenges in fashion—particularly in terms of durability, finish, and scalability.
That’s where Pattern Atklas comes in. Instead of working with the actual skins, we wanted to take the essence of their aesthetic and translate it into something more versatile: denim.
By layering textured patterns across the surface, we created an illusion of fish scales—subtle, iridescent-inspired forms that shift between rugged and refined.
The result? A new kind of denim that plays with perception.
It’s at once grounded in utility and elevated by fantasy, weaving the language of luxury into something as everyday as jeans. A reimagining of what pattern can do—nostalgic in spirit, but future-facing in execution.
